 About Us

Durham Paranormal Research Group is a not-for-profit group dedicated to finding out the truth about unusual goings-on in Durham City. The group was formed in 2002 to investigate some very unpleasant poltergeist reports in the outskirts of the City. A report on the findings was published by The Ghost Club of England  (www.ghostclub.org.uk) the oldest paranormal research organisation in the world started by Charles Dickens after his publication of “A Christmas Carol.” The archives of The Ghost Club are no longer open to the public but the text of the article can be found here (brush with evil). The old DPRG website can be found here.

Over time membership has changed and the only remaining member of the original team is former research chemist and teacher Dave Shotten. Click here for a Northern Echo article on him written by local historian David Simpson. David’s books are the easiest and most enjoyable way to find out about the history of Durham and the surrounding villages: a good timeline is here:

Over time the interests of the group have broadened to include UFO’s and aliens, local history and “conspiracy theories.” If you think that you might be interested in joining this very informal group then please contact us.
